Support Andrew Fay – ABP Southampton Marathon

Once a year for the past one year I have run a marathon – usually (always) in Southampton. As I’m running it this year again, I thought I would like to raise some sponsorship money for a great cause – Beyond The Streets – (BTS).

My generous work pals at Burgess Yachts in London know about BTS, as they dug into their jeans pockets on a “Wear Jeans to Work Day” a while back to raise money for them. The result was a donation to BTS and awareness of this little organisation with a great – and bold – idea:

BTS are fed up with the sexual exploitation of women who are involved in prostitution, and want to help them explore alternatives. They do this in two ways:

1 – A support phone service – not judgemental, very listen-y, confidential and gentle.

2 – Door of Hope Project – specialist support teams operating in Tower Hamlets – East London.

I have been friends with Josephine and Mark, Directors of BTS in Southampton for several years. Their work is challenging, complicated, wrenching, sad and meaningful. It’s underfunded, and this is a great opportunity to support them. I’ll do the hard bit – run a fast marathon – you support me and help BTS help others – it’s so simple!

Please donate, no matter how little, and help create a better tomorrow for women who have experienced sexual exploitation. Thanks for reading, and happy donating!

Weʼre raising £25,000 to Help those in the Caribbean in the places we all have seen and care about

Superyacht Charities are going to give the sum of £8,000 to local charities in the Caribbean. We hope that you will raise as much as possible (more than £25,000) which we will add to.
We are intending to send a portion of these funds to BWA who have a team locally in St Maarten, plus to Serve On who send experienced and trained volunteers to help clear up after a disaster.

To help boost this fund please donate to this page and we will ensure the funds are transferred to the relevant parties.

Every little bit will help get the people and the islands back on their feet for you to visit and enjoy again…

Goya Zimmer Solent Swim
Macmillian Cancer Support Mindfulness Campaign

I am a Superyacht industry professional specializing in business development and have teamed up with Vanessa Hodgson to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support who use Mindfulness as part of their psychological, self help approach.
I am a passionate believer in Mindfulness and the benefits it can bring to people living with Cancer through the application of Mindfulness Meditation and Integrative Medicine.
Vanessa a keen swimmer and who has trained this route before, will be supporting me through my training and swim on the day.

We aim to raise awareness about the concepts of mindfulness, and how it can benefit not only cancer patients, but that of everyday people from all walks of life. Mindfulness is often defined as living in the present-moment, non-judgemental, awareness.
The mindfulness elements of accepting things as they are, turning towards rather than away from difficult emotional experience, and embracing change as a constant are helpful antidotes to these difficult realities. The emotion-regulation strategies practiced in mindfulness-based interventions help to prevent worry about the future and rumination over past events, and allow people to live more fully in the present moment, regardless of what lies ahead. The inevitability of loss, change and to some, eventual death are helpful to face in general, but are both more challenging and more powerful for people directly facing a life threat like cancer.

For myself, to swim the Solent will be a big challenge. I have never had a lesson in my life, but this challenge has great meaning to me and this is my way of trying to make a difference. Not only have I set myself a personal challenge to swim the Solent, but I also want to raise as much money as I possible so charities like MacMillan with the new Mindfulness therapies, can empower you to live well in the midst of change and uncertainty.
We aim to schedule the swim to take place in September 2016.
If you are interested in supporting my efforts to raise the awareness of Mindfulness used within the fight against cancer please visit my Just Giving page
